Review: Clover 8 Bistro Vegetarian and Vegan Dining

Hello all! And happy new year!

On New Year's Eve I had lunch with my family at Clover 8 at Kallang Leisure Park. Although I only recently discovered its existence, Clover 8 was actually opened in October! I was really excited because Kallang Leisure Park is very near to where I live :) It is conveniently located next to Stadium MRT.

Clover 8 Bistro Vegetarian and Vegan Dining by Miao Yi, is a vegan restaurant that serves Vietnamese, Thai and Italian cuisine.

Before heading there, I read some reviews, which weren't all that positive. This could be due to the restaurant being fairly new as the reviewers visited Clover 8 in October. This time that I visited Clover 8 it was quite a pleasant experience.

This place has quite a few mock meat items and is not exactly the healthiest vegan place you could eat at, however the wide variety of food available and the local Asian dishes they serve makes it appeal more to non vegans.

Wide menu at clover 8! ALL vegan! I've never had vegan dim sum, so I was very excited about that and we ordered char siew pao and siew mai :)

The siew mai tasted good but the texture was a little bit off — my brother did not enjoy it. I'd say it was a 7/10?

The char siew pao was great! My mother immediately said "this is very good" when she tried it.

My dad got Pad Thai which he said was tasty.

I ordered Vietnamese hot and sour vermicelli. The spicy + sour combination reminded me of Thai tom yam soup. The soup wasn't too salty and the portion was a good size. I didn't quite like the mock sausage. I'd prefer more veggies, mushroom and tofu than mock meat :) There was an interesting addition of chopped pineapple which made this dish sweet, sour and spicy! Recommended.

My brother ordered hot and sour fish but ended up with black pepper because my mom ordered wrongly haha. He said it tasted eggy but my mom says its soy. He found it "ok". My mum pinched from my dad and brother and also had some dim sum. She ordered this Thai mango coconut sticky rice for us to share too.

Not bad :-) Not something I eat usually so can't really compare, but I found it satisfactory! Mango wasn't very sweet but certainly wasn't sour and this was a nice finale to our meal.

We didn't get any western dishes as past reviewers don't recommend them.

Overall I think clover 8 is great for its range of dishes, it's location (it's near a train station) and affordability. All of our dishes were under $6 each!! The service was efficient and the food tastes good based on what we ordered. However I wish they served more vegetables and less mock meat haha. Do hope more vegan restaurants pop up in 2015!

Thanks for reading, and have a brilliant year ahead!
Sophia

Update: There's a new menu and the quality of food at clover 8 has now declined greatly. The food isn't even that cheap. I completely don't recommend eating here any longer...
